Sometimes you have to look up from whatever deeply rooted weed you’ve been trying to pull out,
leave it in the ground where you found it,
and take a long walk up the garden path to the bench on the little hill
that overlooks the whole garden.
Take in the wonder of it all;
the way the sun rises and sets,
the rain clouds that drift overhead and water your little patch of dirt,
and the miracle of that tiny seed that goes into the soil and springs up as something amazing.
When you sit with the whole garden in sight and breath deeply the morning breeze,
you forget about the weed here and there
and that deep root under the soil from a past season’s growth
that you wish you had never planted.
Last season’s garden is gone.
This season’s garden is growing.
So count the blossoms, not the weeds.
Measure the produce, not the mistakes.
Tend to what is growing in your garden and
let go of those things that you cannot move.
A tiny seed can take root and flourish in unexpectant places.
In spite of the rocks, weeds, and stumps that you are fixated on removing,
there is a vibrant garden successfully growing in you and all around you.
It is beautiful and miraculous.
Just let it grow and enjoy its blessings.
