A Conversation with Jesus

“Dear, Lord, please forgive me for those things I did all those yesterdays ago.”

“Which thing, which yesterday?”

“That thing, that yesterday.”

“I don’t remember that.”

“What do you mean?”

“You confessed those things on those days and asked my forgiveness. Am I not faithful to forgive?”

“What if I repeat those things?”

“Ask forgiveness again. Make different choices next time.”

“Won’t you get tired of having to forgive me for all the things I keep getting wrong?”

“Life isn’t a college entrance exam. You’re not being graded. Your life is a gift and an opportunity to walk with me. You are learning. Would I give my life for you and then give up on you? My love for you is deep and wide.”

“But I’m not good enough.”

“You weren’t. My gift to you is a right relationship with the holy. You can’t be good enough on your own, so I have generously gifted you the royal robes and right standing that you need to be part of the holy.”

“So, now what?”

“Wake up every day and choose.”

“Choose what?”

“Choose to talk to me, believe in me, walk with me.”

“I’ll probably mess up.”

“Yes, but we’ve already covered that. You wear the pure white robes of the Eternal. You are a royal heir to the Kingdom, a child of the King. There is nothing that can make me stop loving you.”

“Thank you, Lord, that your mercy is never exhausted, that your love never runs out. Thank you for the gift of life that I have the privilege of knowing you. Thank you for the gift of eternity in your presence through Christ Jesus. Amen.”

May God’s people know the freedom from shame and guilt that is theirs through the mercy of Christ Jesus our Lord.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

For I will forgive their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins.  Hebrews 8:12

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. Romans 3:23-25

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:20-21
